Coach Ed Burke led Torrey Pines High School and other schools in the San Diego area for 30 years. During his tenure as a head coach, his teams went 243-96-6 with 10 league championships.
In an interview I did with Coach Burke 3 years ago, he said that this speech was nothing out of the ordinary.
